You Dead? is a two-person proof-of-life app. It works because it asks for almost nothing. This page says exactly what that means.

What we never collect

  • Location. Never. The app contains no location code and never asks for the permission. There is no map, no location history, and nothing to sell.
  • Contacts. The app never reads your address book. You add people by sending them a six-character code.
  • An account. There is no sign-in, no email, no password. Your identity is an anonymous id created on your device and kept in the iOS Keychain.

What we do store

  • A first name — the one you type in. It is shown to the people you are paired with.
  • Your settings — time zone, your deadline, your quiet hours.
  • A phone number, only if you enter one. It is optional, and it is shown to your people only when you miss an ask, so they can call you.
  • A backup contact, only if you enter one — a name and a number, shown to your people only when you miss an ask.
  • A push token for each device, so asks and answers can reach you.
  • Asks and proofs — who asked whom, when, and how it was answered: a tap, the finger, or a selfie.

Photos

A selfie proof is private to the two people in that pair. Nobody else can see it. Photos are stored on Cloudflare R2 and are served only through short-lived signed links. They are deleted when the pair ends, when either person deletes their account, and — on the free tier — after 30 days.

We never publish, sell, license, or train anything on your photos.

Where it all lives

The service runs on Cloudflare — a Worker, a D1 database, and R2 storage. Push notifications go through Apple’s Push Notification service. Nothing is shared with anyone else except the two integrations below.

Purchases

You Dead? Plus is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase and managed with RevenueCat, which records your purchase and subscription status against an anonymous app user id. We never see your card, your Apple ID, or your name from Apple.

Analytics

We use ActivationPal for product analytics — counts of things like “an ask was sent” or “the paywall was shown”, so we know which parts of the app work. It is not used to track you across other apps or websites, it uses no advertising identifiers, and no data is sold or handed to data brokers. There is no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking on this website either.

Deleting everything

Open the app, go to Settings → Delete everything, and confirm. That removes your account, your devices, your pairs, every ask, and every photo — on both sides. It is immediate and it cannot be undone. Removing a single person deletes the proofs the two of you made together.

Deleting the app alone does not delete your data. Use Delete everything first.

Children

You Dead? is rated 12+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Not an emergency service

You Dead? tells you when someone did not answer. It does not call anyone, dispatch anyone, or contact emergency services on your behalf. If you believe someone is in danger, call your local emergency number and ask for a welfare check.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will say so before the change takes effect.
